Matchmaking company Sunoo has seen the number of foreign customers explode since it launched an English and Korean service targeted towards Anglophone members on Feb. 13, bringing in hard dollars at a time when the won is weak.

Paid memberships surpassed 2,000 in just a month. The basic membership fee is US$20 for those who have never been married and $30 for those who wish to remarry. An additional $30 is charged for access to the online self-matching service for the never-married, and $50 for those who have been married.

The company says it has earned a daily average of $1,500. If the trend continues, it says it expects $500,000 in overseas sales this year. But Sunoo says it spent W10 billion (US$1=W1,422) over 10 years to build its database as well as the computerized "matching engine."
