The southern port city of Busan launched its first English-language radio station, Busan e-FM, on Friday as the mayor and some 250 government officials attended the opening ceremony.
President Lee Myung-bak also sent out a message of congratulation, saying that with one million foreigners now residing in Korea, its establishment will be beneficial to them as well as help Korean citizens improve their English.
Busan began planning an English broadcasting service in September last year. For content, the city has partnered with Arirang FM Radio. Arirang will initially provide about 60 percent of the programming for the new channel including Arirang Radio's "Mid-Day Break," "K-Pop Zone," "Evening Groove" as well as Arirang News.
Busan e-FM daily broadcasts at 90.5 mHz, and provides useful information about the city for foreigners as well as education and entertainment for Busan citizens.
