The city of Busan is one of the favorite locations in Korea for filmmakers. The city has the ocean nearby, as well as hills and mountains, and, as Korea's second largest city, provides a diverse array of photogenic settings.
For a long time, the only thing Busan lacked was a post-production facility where filmmakers could complete their works shot in the city. But this week the city opened its first post-production facility, and now filmmakers do not have to worry about traveling back to Seoul to finish their work. They can do all the work they need to complete their films right there, including adding special effects and colors.
The facility goes by the name AZ Works on the Beach, and the four-story building is fully-equipped for film processing, editing, graphics and other digital post-production work. Workers here say the facility has the best equipment and workforce.
Busan is already home to the country's biggest annual film festival. Financed by the government, Busan city, and private sources, the facility was built to add strengthen the city's film industry. An average of 40 feature movies are filmed in Busan every year.
The city is looking to keep the momentum going, planning to build additional world-class facilities by 2010 including the Busan Image Center and Film Experience Museum.
