More than 2 million air travelers made stopovers at Incheon International Airport last year, a record since it opened in 2001.
The immigration office says close to 2.2 million transit passengers went through the airport, and the figure is rising an average 10 percent each year.
An airport official says the global economic slump means more people are choosing to fly with low-cost airlines which often make transit stops to pick up additional passengers.
More people coming through Incheon means the airport's revenue, which mostly comes from surcharges on tickets, has also gone up.
