Korea and Japan have agreed to hold working-level talks next week on how to cooperate in rebuilding Afghanistan.
The Foreign Ministry says President Lee Myung-bak and Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso earlier this month agreed to discuss cooperative projects in Afghanistan.
Projects to be evaluated include job training for Afghans and agricultural assistance.
A Korean official said the selected projects are expected to be announced in a ministerial meeting between the two countries next month.
Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone is coming to Seoul for that meeting to discuss denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula as well as the global financial crisis.
