Public agencies and corporations remain Koreans' preferred place to work followed by the country's biggest conglomerates, the weekly Sisa Journal says in a report based on a survey by Media Research.
Public-sector jobs led with 41.5 percent, followed by Samsung with 24.6 percent and Hyundai Motor with 4.9 percent.
Even their favorite professional baseball clubs are the Samsung Lions (18.3 percent) and Lotte Giants (15.1 percent), showing a strong preference for conglomerate brands. However, the largest group of respondents or 29.9 percent gave no preference here.
Samsung ranked top in corporate brands including apartments (Raemian), hospital (Samsung Medical Center), home appliances (Samsung Electronics), and mobile phones (Anycall).
The National Agricultural Cooperative Federation, or Nonghyup Bank, stood out among favored financial brands, ranking first with 34.2 percent, overwhelming Kookmin Bank (23.8 percent) and Shinhan Bank (11.4 percent).
Among public broadcasters, KBS and MBC were neck and neck with 34.5 percent and 30.1 percent approval ratings, respectively. They were followed by SBS with 15.8 percent.
The Chosun Ilbo was the favorite newspaper among some 21.9 percent, followed by the JoongAng Ilbo (15.2 percent). Some 17.1 percent expressed no preference.
