A bridal headdress and a man's gown discovered in the family tombs of Choi Jin in Mungyeong, North Gyeongsang Province, will be designated as cultural assets.
The Cultural Heritage Administration on Monday said 59 articles unearthed in Choi's family tombs in 2006, including the bridal headdress, jackets and gowns, will be designated as important folk assets no. 259. The relics are kept at the Mungyeongsaejae Museum.
Until 2006, all the relics discovered there had been from after the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592. However, the excavation in 2006 found artifacts from before. An official at the Cultural Heritage Administration said, "These articles are valuable for the study of history of Korean costume in the mid and late 16th century. They will provide a key to understanding social and cultural traditions of the time."
