The Harry Potter series of fantasy novels by J. K. Rowling has set a record in the history of publishing that seems set to remain unbeaten for a long time.

It started with the first book of the series "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" in June 1997 and went on until the seventh and last book "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" in July 2007 and has been translated into 67 languages and published in over 200 countries, selling over 400 million copies worldwide. Such figures are unprecedented. In Korea alone, a total of 13 million copies were sold.

The profits from sales of books alone were W3 trillion (US$1=W1,359), and total profits from the films, video games and other themed merchandise are estimated to be around W300 trillion.
