The Seocho District Office in Seoul is playing matchmaker with a new marriage counseling service to introduce unmarried men and women. If they register for membership, the office will use a "matching card" that contains members' personal data to find a suitable partner for them.

This service is provided to residents in the Seocho district and no membership fees or commissions are charged, unlike other wedding agencies. Instead, members must submit a written oath that says they will assume civil and criminal liability if the personal data they provided is untrue.

Lee Dong-woo, 56, the official in charge of the service, said, "Many parents are worried about their children because they don't have time to find a partner, working a busy schedule," and "we thought matchmaking is an essential service to be provided by local governments, given that late marriage and low birthrates are serious social problems."
