The government on Tuesday named 36 construction, energy and environmental projects including the restoration of the four major rivers as part of a "Green New Deal" aimed at low-carbon, environment-friendly growth.

It said it will inject W50.5 trillion (US$1=W1,313) in the projects over the next four years -- W37 trillion from government coffers, W5 trillion from local government funds, and W7 trillion from private funds -- and create 950,000 new jobs.

But some 920,000 jobs will be those at building sites or production lines. Therefore, some people criticized that such projects are nothing but large-scale construction and civil engineering projects, far from those of state-of-the-art future-oriented industries.
