Samsung Electronics has developed the world's thinnest television. The company announced on Sunday that it will showcase its recently developed 6.5mm thick LCD TV at CES 2009, the world's largest consumer electronics exhibition, held in Las Vegas next Thursday.
The world's thinnest TV is 2mm thinner than the firm's last product, introduced to the market at IFA 2008 in Germany last August.
Samsung's competitor Sony is producing 9.9mm thick TVs. With its focus on reducing thickness, Samsung's newest model cannot house a tuner or receiver within its unit, but comes with a separate tuner device.
"As it has adopted the sophisticated new material of LED (light emitting diode) as a light source, image quality, definition and appearance have been much enhanced," explained Samsung.
