Almost 4,000 people dressed as Santa Claus gathered on Monday in the Romanian capital Bucharest four days before Christmas.

Some 3,939 people met at the "Santa gathering event" held by the Romanian city aimed at setting a new Guinness World Record.

Meanwhile, the Korea Record Institute announced on Monday that it will challenge its own Guinness record by gathering 30,000 carolers at Sangam Worldcup Stadium on Christmas day, Thursday.

This special event is part of the 2008 charity soccer game held annually by the Hong Myung-bo Scholarship Foundation. The KRI said the event will include carol singing with a choir of disabled children. Those who participate will be given a red Santa Claus hat and a musical score, and a public certificate from the institute if they successfully meet the challenge.

The current world record saw 14,750 people sing carols in Chicago last year.
