An incandescent light bulb with low energy efficiency will disappear in Korea by 2013. The government will also launch its pilot plan ”°energy efficiency management system”± that will impose minimum energy efficiency limits for electronics manufacturers in 2010.
As part of the plan, the government will completely eliminate incandescent light bulbs that use 95 percent of their energy in emitting heat by 2013. The plan is limited to incandescent bulbs for general use, excluding those for industrial, nuclear power, photo-taking, and decorative purposes. Australia and the European Union also plan to eliminate incandescent bulbs by 2013 and 2012, respectively.
The Ministry of Knowledge Economy said, ”°If some 20 million incandescent light bulbs circulating on the market are replaced by self ballasted lamps, some annual W102.2 billion worth of energy can be saved, on the basis of four hours daily usage.”±
In addition, the government will dramatically decrease taxes on hybrid cars to be produced from July of next year. A ministry official said, ”°Individual consumption tax, acquisition and registration taxes along with other de facto taxes created by forcing car-buyers to purchase government bonds, will significantly decrease. Some W3 million will be deducted for W30 million hybrid cars.”± The government will also increase the standard for car fuel-efficiency by 16.5 percent by 2012.
