Korea and the European Union will hold an inter-session meeting in Vienna this week to try and resolve contentious issues that remain in their free trade negotiations.

Deputy Trade Minister Lee Hye-min and his European counterpart Ignacio Garcia Bercero will look for ways to strike a deal as soon as possible during the meeting that will run from Monday to Wednesday.

Chief negotiators from the two sides will discuss topics such as tariff reductions, rules of origin and auto trade.

Korea and the 27-nation economic bloc, which is Korea's second-largest trading partner after China, have held seven rounds of negotiations so far.

During the last round in May, the two sides agreed to reach a deal within this year.
