The U.S. press is reporting on conservative South Korean activist groups sending propaganda leaflets into North Korea.
The Washington Post carried a report on the clash between conservative organizations, including Fighters for Free North Korea, trying to float propaganda leaflets in Imjingak Park, Paju, prompting left-wing groups to block the attempt. On its website, the daily newspaper posted a video clip reportedly shot at the site. Under the title "Brawl Near Koreas' Border," the article described how the leaflets defaming Kim Jong-il infuriated the North Korean government, which is said to have become particularly sensitive to attacks aimed at Kim since the leader reportedly suffered a stroke in August.
Meanwhile, CNN on Wednesday broadcast scenes of conservative South Korean activists' successfully floating the leaflets skyward from the Bridge of Freedom the day after the clash. It said some 100,000 propaganda leaflets had been distributed by activists.
