Korea will soon play a more prominent role in the future of nuclear energy. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announced Korea has been selected as the chair of the International Nuclear Regulatory Association for 2009.
The association was founded in 1997 to enhance nuclear safety worldwide. The original members are the eight major nuclear energy-producing countries including France, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Korea joined the association two years ago and as the group's chair will be able to shape policies regarding nuclear safety.
