U.S. Ambassador Kathleen Stephens has been named PR envoy for the Korean language by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Language Society.

They also appointed fashion designer Lee Sang-bong, MBC announcer Choi Jae-hyuk to promote the language for a year.

Stephens, who started her longstanding relationship with Korea as a member of the Peace Corps in 1975, is the first American ambassador to Korea who speaks the language fluently.
