University Rankings Go Online
Sungkyunkwan University produced the largest number of graduates who found a regular job this year among universities with an enrollment of 10,000 undergraduates or more. Kumoh National Institute of Technology was second and Korea University third.
The ranking was announced Monday under new disclosure requirements on Daehak Alimi (www.academyinfo.go.kr), a public information website for colleges and universities.
The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has annually made public the overall employment statistics among graduates of junior colleges, universities and graduate schools, but this is the first time it announced the ranking for universities based on employment rates among their graduates.
¡ß Employment ranking
As of April 1 this year, 78.8 percent of graduates of Sungkyunkwan University¡¯s Natural Science Campus in Suwon found regular jobs, meaning long-term positions with full benefits and job security. Following it were Kumoh National College of Technology with 75.5 percent and Korea University with 75.4 percent. Ranked fourth to 10th were Hanyang University (67.1 percent), Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (63.7 percent), Chung-Ang University (63.4 percent), Ulsan University (63.1 percent) and Semyung University (62.6 percent).
Among universities with an enrollment of less than 10,000 undergraduates, Kyungdong University led with 90.2 percent, followed by Margaret Prichard University with 89.6 percent and Pochon Cha University¡¯s College of Medicine with 87.1 percent.
Among junior colleges, Sejeong College came top with 95.9 percent, followed by Kyungnam College of Information and Technology with 93.5 percent, and Chosun Nursing College with 92.9 percent.

Rankings are also available in four other categories -- securing full-time faculty members, filling enrollment quota, scholarship ratios and tuition. The ministry plans to increase the number of categories to over 20 in the future.
As of 2008, Ewha Womans University was the most expensive with tuition of W8.8 million (US$1=W1,444), followed by Sookmyung Women's University (W8.68 million) and Yonsei University (W8.65 million).
Ranked first in the percentage of scholarships awarded out of total tuition revenues among universities with more than 10,000 undergraduates was Chonnam National University (13.7 percent), followed by University of Seoul (12.8 percent) and Chungnam National University (12.1 percent). National universities charging relatively small sums of tuition occupied more than a half of the top 20 universities with high scholarship ratios.
In terms of the percentage of a university's full-time faculty members divided by the legal quota of such members according to the number of students, Hallym University came first with 181.1 percent. Inje University was next with 136.9 percent, then Ulsan University (118.8 percent), Soonchunhyang University (114.5 percent) and Seoul National University (101.5 percent). Universities operating medical colleges in general scored higher than others.
At three universities enrollment fell short of 30 percent of the quota, five had less than 50 percent and 23 less than 70 percent, most of them in provincial towns.
