Hybrid cars have been around for quite some time, the most common ones powered by internal combustion engines and electric motors. The two power sources work in parallel alternating according to conditions and speed, electricity for lower speeds and diesel or gasoline when going faster.
At present an ordinary hybrid can run 5 km at speeds of up to 40 km per hour using just electricity. But industry watchers say if and when commercialized, new green car technology will take us closer to saying goodbye to fossil fuels.
Just several more years more, Korean companies say, and we may be looking for electricity outlets not gas stations to fill our cars.
