Under new regulations, women will only be able to donate eggs to others a maximum of three times in their lifetime and at intervals of at least six months to protect their health.

The new rules were introduced in an amendment to the enforcement ordinance of the bioethics and safety law effective from Dec. 6.

So far the law only specified that a woman can legally donate eggs to infertile women for treatment purposes only, but there was no cap on the number of times she can do it and at what frequency. The improved version closes loopholes in the original regulation but sets no limit on extracting eggs from a patient for the purpose of her own artificial insemination.
