Korea Is World's Biggest Importer of U.S. Beef
Korea became the largest importer of U.S. beef just three months after it lifted its ban on U.S. beef.

According to statistics announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Wednesday, beef exports to Korea reached US$89.24 million, or 28 percent of the total ($319.56 million) in September. Korea was followed by Mexico, Canada and Japan, which imported U.S. beef worth $77.91 million, $58.93 million and $29.70 million respectively. In terms of import volume, Mexico ranked first with 18,046 tons, followed by Korea with 16,642 tons.

As for Korea¡¯s top ranking in terms of import value, an official with the U.S. Meat Export Federation Korea explained, ¡°Exports to Korea are premium and quality cuts such as fillet, which fetch higher prices than those to Mexico.¡±

Also, in Korea¡¯s beef market, in terms of amount declared fit for import for July - October, U.S. imports ranked first, with 36,657 tons, beating Australia¡¯s 36,397 tons.
