Condom Sales Rise During Economic Depression
Convenience store GS25 said that nationwide condom sales in 3,300 branches between last Aug. and Nov. 16 increased by 19.3 percent compared to last year. The figure for sales between January and July has tripled compared to last year's 5.2 percent.

The same goes for convenience store 7-Eleven. Condom sales between August and November rose by 17.5 percent compared to last year. This figure also far exceeds the 6.4 percent of January - July.

The industry considers the economic depression that started to gain momentum in August as the biggest reason for the drop in condom sales, as more couples defer plans to have children. Kim Il-yong, department director of GS25, said some researchers think the stress of economic depression is partly responsible for the rise in condom sales.
