Billy Joel is perhaps best described as the ¡°Piano Man¡± after his eponymous signature song. One of the best known American pop pianists, Joel will stage his first concert in Korea at the Olympic Gymnastics Stadium at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
In fact, Billy Joel stopped writing songs after releasing his album ¡°River of Dreams¡± in 1993, but still tours the world playing sold-out concerts. Critics have rather neglected his music in recent years, but with more than 150 million albums sold, he has been at the forefront of American contemporary pop music for several decades. His hits include ¡°Piano Man,¡± ¡°Honesty,¡± ¡°Just the Way You Are,¡± ¡°New York State of Mind,¡± ¡°My Life¡± and ¡°Uptown Girl.¡±
He recently held a joint concert with Bruce Springsteen in New York in support of newly-elected U.S. President Barack Obama. In a telephone interview with the concert production company, Joel said, ¡°I am excited to visit Korea for the first time and meet my Korean fans, and I hope they come to the arena with the same excitement that I have right now. If you bring good memories associated with my songs, I will sing them to you.¡±
