Wetlands Conference Ends with Call to Action
The 10th meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Convention on Wetlands ended at the Changwon Convention Center on Tuesday, after eight days of heated discussion on protecting wetlands. With over 2,200 government and NGO representatives from 140 countries, the Ramsar Convention adopted 32 resolutions including the Ramsar Strategic Plan 2009-2014 and a resolution to promote international cooperation for the conservation of waterbird flyways.

The convention also adopted the Changwon Declaration, which reads in part, ˇ°Wetlands are vital parts of the natural infrastructure we need for mitigating and adapting to climate change. Governments need to include water and wetland management in effective strategies for mitigating and adapting to climate change at national level.ˇ±
