Revised Civil Servants' Code Bans Religious Preferences
The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission announced Tuesday that the revised code of conduct for civil servants, which bans them to act on personal religious preferences in public affairs, will go into effect from Wednesday.

The revision came after the government accepted complaints from the Buddhist circle of discrimination against certain religions after several key government officials publicly revealed their personal penchants for Christianity. According to the newly amended code of conduct, a civil servant should not discriminate or favor someone based on hometown, clan, academic or religious backgrounds while on duty.

An official from the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission said, ˇ°If a civil servant makes an unfair or discriminatory action against or gives favorable privilege to certain religion, he or she will be subject to punishment based on legal regulations.ˇ±
