Hyundai-Kia Take 80 Percent of Domestic Market
The domestic market share of the Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors stood at 81.8 percent in October, breaking the 80 percent mark for the first time in history. Eight out of 10 consumers who bought a Korean car bought either a Hyundai or a Kia. The previous highest domestic market share of the two was 79.4 percent in January this year.

In October sales performance reports of the five Korean carmakers released Monday, the five sold a total of 505,541 cars in both the domestic and overseas market last month, up 3.7 percent from a year ago and up 30.9 percent from the previous month. GM Daewoo, Renault Samsung and Ssangyong struggled.

In the domestic market, the five firms sold 104,982 cars, up 0.3 percent from a year ago. Overseas, Hyundai alone sold 217,223 cars, up 16.8 percent from a year ago, and the five companies combined 400,559, 4.9 percent more than October last year.
