Microsoft to Invest $60 Million in Korean Software Over 3 Years

Currently visiting Korea, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer met with President Lee Myung-bak on Monday, and said his firm would invest US$60 million over the next three years to nurture human resources in the software field and to assist Korea¡¯s new software companies find their way in overseas markets. Microsoft will recruit 2,000 Korean university students over next three years, provide them with software development training, and will run a separate internship program for 500 people.

In a special lecture at the Grand Intercontinental Hotel hosted by the Federation of Korean Industries on Monday morning, Ballmer said, ¡°Our investment will grow more slowly, but we are not cutting back. ¡°We told our shareholders in July that we will increase our operating expenses by $4 billion in the 2009 fiscal year. I think it's the largest increase any company has proposed." On the upcoming U.S. presidential election, he said the U.S. and the global economy will improve no matter who is elected.
