According to the Korea Cable TV Association on Sunday said, as of the end of September, the number of digital cable TV subscribers stood at 1.68 million.

“We have seen an increase of 100,000 people every month, and if this pace continues, it is unlikely we will surpass 2 million by the end of this year,” said an association official. Earlier this year, the cable TV system operators’ council had anticipated 2.5 million subscribers by the end of the year.

The number of people subscribing to analogue cable TV fell by 380,000 from 13.91 million at the end of last year to 13.53 by the end of last June. Oh Kwang-seong, president of the cable TV system operators’ council, said, “Due to frozen consumer sentiment, people are hesitant to join the digital cable TV network.”
