'Economic Classes Insufficient'
Economic classes equate to only 0.7 percent of the total secondary school curriculum, according to a report entitled ¡°Measures to Improve School Education on Economy to Enhance Awareness of Economy¡± by the Federation of Korean Industries on Sunday.

¡°From the 1st grade of middle school to the 1st grade of high school, lessons on the economy account for 31 of a total 4,692 hours of classes, amounting to just 0.7 percent,¡± the FKI analyzed. ¡°Not only that, text books overemphasize the negative aspects of capitalism and market economy,¡± Even the Korean economy¡¯s achievements since the 1960s are not objectively described, according to the report.

An official with the FKI said, ¡°Despite the growing importance of economic awareness, the number of financial lessons is decreasing, and lessons are biased against market economy. More importance should be given to economy-related content. Measures to educate the military on such matters should also be introduced.¡±
