MBC Gets Low Score Card from TV Watchdog
MBC earned the lowest score among the four terrestrial TV networks in broadcasting ratings by the Korea Communications Commission.

Broadcasting ratings are an annual report card the commission issues after assessing three areas -- content, programming and operation. This is the first time the score has been revealed.

The KCC on Wednesday released the ratings for broadcasts aired in 2007, which gave KBS1 the highest score of 763.88 points out of 900, followed by SBS with 712.38, KBS2 with 710.38 and MBC with 665.02.

At a closer look, MBC scored 51 points out of 100 in the category assessing how well it complies with broadcast laws, behind KBS1¡¯s 85, KBS2¡¯s 82 and SBS¡¯ 72.

A KCC official said, ¡°MBC, which had many violations against related laws, got lower scores than other networks.¡±

When the KCC deliberates on the license for broadcasting networks, the ratings average for three years is reflected in 50 percent of the total score, which means a network with a bad score could lose a terrestrial license. The ratings released Wednesday will be reflected in deliberations in 2010.
