Detailed weather forecasts for each village in Korea start on Thursday. The Korea Meteorological Administration on Wednesday said it will provide weather services for each eup (town), myeon (township), and dong (village) on websites www.kma.go.kr and www.digital.go.kr beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday.
For weather forecasts, the country is divided into 4,400 districts, for which weather services are provided every three hours. Koreans will be able to find out what kind of weather they will have within the next 48 hours. Previous weather services were provided for larger areas, such as cities and counties, on a daily basis.
The new kind of weather information will carry 12 kinds of data, including temperature and humidity, alongside a map, a graph and audio data. In the past, only the highest and lowest temperatures were provided for the day.
A KMA official said, "Even in Seoul, some districts have rain, but others don't, so many citizens complained of broad weather forecasts that were provided for larger areas. The new service system will help people make plans for industrial or outdoor recreational activities now that we have a five-day work week.Ħħ
