French encyclopedia publisher Universalis will refer to Korea's East Sea by that name in its 2009 edition for the first time, a measure sure to be looked on favorably by Koreans.
The body of water between Korea and Japan is forever in the news since Japan claims Korea's Dokdo islets located in the sea.
Universalis put the name "East Sea" alongside the name "Sea of Japan" in the 2008 versions of its world map and economy yearbook, but this will be the first time the name ¡°East Sea" will be carried in its encyclopedia.
The name ¡°Dokdo¡± will also appear for the first time in the 2009 version of the encyclopedia together with a description of the islets.
