Park Seung-jung, the chief of the Division of Interventional Cardiology at Asan Medical Center and a global authority on interventional vascular medicine that involves clearing the coronary arteries without surgery, has won the 2008 Career Achievement Award at the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics scientific symposium.

That is a group of the worldĄŻs top experts in the field of interventional vascular medicine that researches and develops new ways to treat heart problems. This is the first time an Asian expert has won the award.

Delivering the award to Park at its 20th anniversary symposium last weekend, the society said it came in recognition of his innovative achievements in the field.

Park is the only physician to win both the Ethica Award, which is the top prize in the field of European interventional vascular surgery, and the U.S. TCT Career Achievement Award, Asan Medical Center said.
