Online data protection is no easy matter. Even if users want to delete information registered with websites that they seldom visit, the process of doing so is so complicated, and remembering all the sites is another daunting task.
A Clean Campaign for Personal Information launched by the Korea Communications Commission and the Korea Information Security Agency is receiving a warm response from Internet users. This campaign carries out the de-registration process for users from websites they have not visited for a long time or the sites suspected of using stolen information. In just two weeks since the launch, more than 10 million requests have been received.
With the help of the campaign, it is easy to de-register. All users need is an i-PIN from the campaign website (p-clean.kisa.or.kr). With i-PIN and personal identification process, they can view a list of websites they are registered with and select the sites where they want to de-register. KISA will do the rest and inform users of the status of their requests.
The Korea Communications Commission has been surprised at the popularity of the campaign. People in their 20s and the 30s made up 80.9 percent of the total, but there were more than 1,000 senior citizens over 60 years of age as well. The campaign runs until Oct. 24.
