Korean scientists have developed a robot that can dance to ¡°Tell Me¡± by the Wonder Girls, the first in the country that can freely move both of its arms while walking on two feet.

A team from the Korea Institute of Science and Technology led by You Bum-jae said on Monday it developed a robot called Mahru that can move its upper and the lower body independently and mimic human movements. Most robots can move only the upper body when the lower body is in motion and vice versa. ¡°Only the most advanced robots in the world like Ashimo made by Japan¡¯s Honda can move the whole body at the same time. Mahru is the first one in Korea,¡± said You.

Unlike other humanoid robots, which were made with a focus on walking or running, Mahru was made to do labor for humans, You said.

It will be unveiled at Robot World 2008 held in COEX, Seoul, from Oct. 16 to 19.
