The Foreign Ministry in Seoul says high-ranking officials from Korea, the U.S. and Japan plan to meet next Tuesday in Washington to discuss the political situation in Northeast Asia, as well as a broad range of key security issues, including developments in Iraq and Afghanistan.
These tri-party high-level meetings have been held sporadically since the 1990s but next week's talks will be the first since 2003.
The Korean Foreign Ministry says while there may have been a lull in recent years, it expects the talks to be held on a regular basis from now on.
