67% of ¡®John School¡¯ Attendants are College Graduates
67.5 percent of ¡°john school¡± attendants are college graduates, according to a report titled ¡°2006 Analysis of john school: Graduates¡¯ Characteristics and Effectiveness of Education,¡± submitted by the Ministry of Justice to Lee Chun-seok, Democratic Party Congressman.

¡°John school¡± aims to reduce recidivism by re-educating men previously arrested for soliciting prostitutes.

According to the report, of 1,289 respondents, 774 (60 percent) responded ¡°admitted to a university but not yet graduated,¡± and 97 (7.5 percent) as ¡°admitted to a graduate school.¡±

645 (50 percent) of the respondents were in their 30s and 291 (22.6 percent) in their 40s. Office workers comprised the largest group, with 438 persons (34.4 percent), followed by those employed in the sales and service sector (326 persons or 25.6 percent), professionals (165 persons or 13 percent), and those holding a managing job (77 persons or 6.1 percent).

763 respondents (59.1 percent) said they went to massage parlors, while red-light-district bars and saloons were favored by 703 (54.5 percent) and 577 persons (44.7 percent) respectively.

The Prosecutor¡¯s Office suspends the indictment of first-time offenders on the condition that they receive eight hours of education at john school. The school was started in San Francisco, the U.S. in 1995; its name originated from the fact that most arrested men used the alias ¡°John¡± instead of their real name.
