Crisis Management Guidelines ¡®Out of Date¡¯
Several of Korea¡¯s national crisis management manuals have not been updated since 2005, Grand National Party lawmaker Hong Jung-wook of the Foreign Affairs, Trade and Unification Committee in the National Assembly said Sunday that.

The national crisis management manuals are guidelines written for the government on what to do in the times of terrorist attacks or nuclear accidents. They have no fewer than 272 parts.

¡°Besides manuals on contingencies for Korean nationals in overseas territories and terrorist attacks abroad, the revision of some 10 other similar manuals stored in the Foreign Ministry and the Unification Ministry are not completed,¡± said Hong.

Cheong Wa Dae in press release Sunday said the manuals have been reviewed by the Ministry of Government Legislation and approved by the Prime Minister, and will go into effect after receiving approval from the president sometime this week. ¡°After launching the national crisis management center in late July, the government is operating a system receiving and reporting all kinds of difficulties and crisis in real time,¡± the presidential office claimed.
