Considerable Amount of Taxes Still Unpaid
Almost nine percent of last year¡¯s tax was uncollected, according to the National Assembly's finance committee.

The committee said that 8.6 percent of tax, amounting to about W14.6 trillion (US$1=W1,121), was overdue in 2007.

And nearly 37 percent was written off, meaning the tax duty becomes nullified after the collection is deemed unlikely.

The committee also pointed out the amount of uncollected taxes has been dropping since 2005.

It added, however, that the nullified amount is still considerable, after the government's efforts to streamline tax-related bureaucracy more efficiently and upgrade the taxation system.
