Police are investigating the suspected leak of the personal information of 5.9 million Internet users registered with high-speed Internet providers KT, Hanaro Telecom, LG Powercomm and Onse Telecom. The leaked information was reportedly used for sales purpose of one telecom company.
Uijeongbu Police announced Thursday that they booked a suspect identified as Jeong (32) on charges of obtaining personal information of people who registered locally with high-speed Internet providers and cable TV companies and used it for his sales activities. According to the police, Jeong bought two CDs with the personal information of 5.4 million people online for W3 million (US$1=W1,129) each in March and April 2006.
