Koreans and taekwondo afficianados around the world can now celebrate September 4 as the official Taekwondo Day.
A huge crowd of all ages gathered at Olympic Park in Jamshil, eastern Seoul, to enjoy the various events ushering in the newly-designated day.
Taekwondo was one of the sports that helped confirm Korea as one of the Olympics' 'G7 powers', with gold medals won. Today's celebration was held to honor those who participated and pay tribute to the national sport.
While taekwondo-inspired performances were featured, Korea's new gold medalists signed autographs. Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the World Taekwondo Federation say they will collaborate to maintain the popularity of the sport.
