U.S. President George W. Bush on Monday sent President Lee Myung-bak a letter expressing his gratitude for the hospitality he received during his visit to Seoul in early August, Cheong Wa Dae said Tuesday.
In a fax to Cheong Wa Dae, Bush said, "Dear President and Mrs Kim. Laura, Barbara and I really enjoyed our visit to Seoul. Although the trip was too brief, we did accomplish a lot. The meetings were substantive. Our common interests were advanced."
He added he ˇ°appreciated the lunch. The food was wonderful, and you were so kind to include Barbara. I also value our friendship. With respect and best wishes."
A Cheong Wa Dae official said, "Sometimes, foreign leaders send letters of thanks after summit meetings, but it is quite unprecedented that a foreign leader has sent a warm personal letter in his own handwriting."
