More and more Koreans have purchased houses in the U.S. as the subprime mortgage crisis has sent house prices there falling. The Ministry of Strategy and Finance said Wednesday that 67 cases of real estate purchase by Koreans in the U.S. were reported in July, up 42 percent from 47 cases in June.
The number of cases of real estate purchase in Canada also doubled from 8 to 16. This brings the combined number of cases in the entire North American region to 83, worth US$41 million, almost double the $27 million in June.
However, Koreans bought less real estate in Southeast Asia, with the number decreasing from 101 in June to 39 in July.
