The Korean Olympic baseball team on Wednesday beat the Netherlands 10-0 in eight innings in the final round-robin game, the only unbeaten team among eight. Now first-placed, the Korean team will face fourth-placer Japan in the semifinal on Friday. Japan lost to the United States 2-4 in the 11th inning, finishing the pool league with four wins and three losses.
In the table tennis womenĄŻs singles competition, Korean captain Kim Kyung-ah beat JapanĄŻs Haruna Fukuoka with a set score of 4-2 in the third round. And Park Mi-young pummeled Kim Jong of North Korea 4-0 and advanced to the fourth round. The menĄŻs handball team had less luck, and their dream of reaching the semifinal was thwarted by Spain when they lost 24-29.

As of 8 a.m. on Thursday, Korea is in seventh place in the medal count with eight gold, 10 silver and six bronze medals. China is a distant first with 45 gold, 14 silver and 20 bronze medals, and the U.S. is in second with 26 gold, 28 silver and 28 bronze. The United Kingdom is in third with 16 gold, 10 silver and 11 bronze, and Russia fourth with 13, 14 and 18. Australia is ranked fifth with 11, 12 and 13, and Germany sixth with 11, eight and nine.
