Japan Expert Named New Chinese Envoy to Seoul
Chinese ambassador-designate to Korea Cheng Yonghua
China has reportedly named its ambassador to Malaysia, Cheng Yonghua, as ambassador to Korea to replace Ning Fukui. A Chinese Foreign Ministry official on Wednesday said Cheng will apparently soon be named as replacement for Ning, who completes a three-year tour that started in September 2005.

Cheng is a Japan expert who began his diplomatic career at the Chinese Embassy in Tokyo in 1977 and worked as deputy director-general in the Department of Asian Affairs at the Chinese Foreign Ministry and as minister-counselor at the Chinese Embassy to Japan. Since 2006, he has been ambassador in Kuala Lumpur.

It is the second time a Japan expert has been named Chinese envoy to Seoul after Wu Dawei, now vice foreign minister and chief nuclear negotiator at the six-party talks, who was BeijingĄ¯s second ambassador to Korea.
