Army Store Posts to Disappear
The posts of soldiers serving in army stores will disappear by the end of 2009. The number of servicemen at military hotels, condos and welfare halls will also be cut drastically. About 4,000 surplus servicemen resulting from the restructuring will be reassigned to combat duties. Military authorities will find ways to outsource management of military hotels and condos to civilian firms.

A Defense Ministry official on Wednesday said, "The welfare commands of the Army, Navy and Air Force will be integrated into a Military Welfare Command on Sept. 1, making it possible to reassign the surplus 1,454 servicemen from military hotels to combat duties." If the surplus 2,700 servicemen from army store management are included, a total of 4,150 servicemen will be reassigned to combat units.
