Some 72.7 percent of Koreans think President Lee Myung-bak is the most influential person in the country, an annual survey by the weekly Sisa Journal shows. Lee was followed by former Samsung Group chairman Lee Kun-hee (25.6 percent of respondents) and former Grand National Party chairwoman Park Geun-hye (11.8 percent).

The Chosun Ilbo ranked first in terms of the readership/viewership, outdistancing KBS and MBC. But KBS was named the most influential media outlet, ahead of the Chosun Ilbo and MBC.

Sohn Suk-hee, a professor at Sungshin Women's University, was rated as the most influential journalist, followed by MBC president Um Ki-young, former KBS president Jung Yun-joo, Chosun Ilbo president Bang Sang-hoon, and Chosun Ilbo columnist Kim Dae-joong.

The survey is conducted annually by Media Research for Sisa Journal. It targets 1,000 professionals in 10 different fields, including professors, journalists and politicians. The latest survey was conducted from Aug. 5 to 9.

In the category of potential next presidential hopefuls, Park Geun-hye won an overwhelming 42.2 percent support. Park was followed by GNP Supreme Council member Chung Mong-joon (7.5 percent), former Democratic Party chairman Sohn Hak-kyu (2.8 percent), and Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon (2.2 percent).

Lee Kun-hee was rated the most influential businessman and Samsung Electronics the most influential enterprise.

U.S. President George W. Bush was rated the most influential foreigner, novelist Yi Mun-yol the most influential artist or man of letters, actor Bae Yong-joon the most influential entertainer, and football player Park Ji-sung the most influential sportsman.

Some 81.1 percent of respondents cited former president Park Chung-hee as the most influential man since the nation's liberation.
