LG Electronics is now the second-highest selling cell-phone manufacturer in the North American market, beating Samsung Electronics. According to U.S. market researcher Strategy Analytics (SA), LG sold 9.4 handsets and Samsung 8.4 million in the second quarter, after first-placed Motorola with 11.4 million.

LG is close to becoming one of the top three global cell-phone manufacturers thanks to strong sales in North America, the worldĄŻs largest market for cellular phones. LG ranked fourth in Q2 global cell-phone sales at 27.7 million after Nokia (122 million), Samsung (45.7 million) and Motorola (28.1 million). Industry insiders believe LG could overtake Motorola soon.
