SK Telecom Reports 26% Fall in Operating Profit
Operating profit at SK Telecom, the country's largest mobile phone operator, plunged in the second quarter. The main cause was record-high marketing costs for subsidizing handset sales in the 3G phone market.

Releasing quarterly results on Thursday, SK Telecom announced W2.9 trillion in sales, W533 billion in operating profit and net profit of W298 billion. Sales grew 3.1 percent year-on-year but operating profit fell 19.5 percent and net profit sunk 26.1 percent.

Marketing costs in the April-to-June period came to W876.2 billion, up 24.6 percent year-on-year and 14.3 percent from the previous quarter.
