Korea has become a destination for Olympians before they head to Beijing to battle it out in the Summer Olympics. They come here to train in a climate that is similar to that of Beijing but lacks the unwanted pollution of the Chinese capital.
A rowing team from the Netherlands is in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province; about 150 km east of Seoul. The Dutch athletes are not limited to rowing. Some 115 of them from eight events teams including taekwondo and cycling are planning to train in Korea before the games begin.
In total some 1,500 athletes from more than 30 competing countries such as South Africa and Greece are training here. They are not staying for long, but it certainly gives the regional economy a boost. And observers say it's also a great opportunity for Korea to promote its sports facilities.
